I was newly pregnant at the time as well, the Loma Prieta earthquake was a pretty recent memory, and I was by no means sure we were doing the right thing. Our friends and family wondered too. I remember marking the end of the journey with a photo of my husband replacing our Minnesota license plates with California ones.
